SYNOPSIS

“Ayiti: The Awakening” is a documentary film that will take a fresh look at the history of Ayiti told from Sage Love, who is the descendant of the first ruler of Ayiti Jean Jacques Dessalines, historians and personal stories behind the Haitian Revolution. The film takes us back to the devastating earthquake that occurred in 2010 to hear the stories from some survivors trying to make sense of what happened. We then dive into the Red Cross and Clinton Foundation raising billions of dollars for the relief of Haiti but none of the money really went into rebuilding Haiti. We’ve seen this type of corruption before and we are going to dive into Ayiti’s history to shed light on Ayiti’s troubled but inspiring history.

Jean Jacques Dessalines

(September 20, 1758 – October 17,1806) was a leader of the Haitian Revolution and the first ruler of an independent Haiti under the 1805 constitution. Under Dessalines, Haiti became the first country in the Americas to permanently abolish slavery.
